Chamber Collecting Supplies for Stuff the Bus Project

2010 Back-Pack 2 School Project: "Stuff the Bus"

Suff the BusEvery year a number of students start the school year without the necessary supplies to be successful. For the fourth year A-TCAA’s Camanche Lake and Upcountry Community Centers and the Generation Life Church are sponsoring the Back-Pack 2 School Project.  This is a county-wide project which provides backpacks filled with grade appropriate school supplies for children whose families are financially stressed living in Amador County.  Without the generosity of local individuals, businesses, and community organizations, many families would struggle to provide these much needed supplies.

Help us stuff the bus with backpacks and school supplies for children in need in Amador County for the 2010 - 2011 school year.

Altogether, 311 children received a backpack and school supplies for the 2009/10 school year.  This year our goal is to reach all of the families in our county who would like this assistance.

This project is dependent upon community support for its success.  We ask the community to help purchase supplies and bring them to the Stuff the Bus event at the Save-Mart parking lot August 2nd anytime between noon and 7pm.  A team of volunteers will be available to organize and fill backpacks with the school supplies which will be distributed to families the following week

Bring your donations of backpacks and school supplies to the school bus in the parking lot of Save Mart Supermarket in Martell between 12:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Volunteers will be on hand to accept the supplies and ensure that every backpack has the necessary school supplies.

If you would like assistance with school supplies for the 2010/11 school year applications can be found at the A-TCAA Upcountry Community Center 296-2785, the Jackson A-TCAA office 223-1495, Generation Life Church 267-9198 or the Interfaith Food Bank.  To qualify, families must reside in Amador County, qualify for the Free/Reduced Lunch program, and students must be going into grades K-12.

If you would like to sponsor a student, a list of supplies can be found at upcountycommunity.blogspot.com or call 296-2785.  You can also follow the project on Facebook at Amador County Stuff the Bus. For more information or to get involved contact Ruthella Turner of the Upcountry Community Center at 296-2785 or Meredith Tasiopoulos of Generation Life Church at 267-9198 x27.
