	IONE Unlike other communities in Amador County, which were founded on gold mining, Ione was a supply center, stage and rail stop and agricultural hub. The city is the home of the century-old Preston Castle, located at Preston School of Industry, a facility operated by the California Youth Authority. Ione provides a convenient central point for exploring the local countryside. The city is surrounded by gently rolling hills, cattle ranches and farms, and fish-filled lakes. Nearby Howard Park is a multi=use recreational complex featuring equestrian and outdoor events. The park is also the hub for local little league and soccer teams. Miss Ione pageant, carnival, equestrian activities, dance, BBQ dinner, art show, Sunday Parade. MAY - Ione RailFare and MOW Expo. Second Saturday and Sunday in May. Annual event since 2006. Ione RailFair and Maintenance of Way Expo. Living history, see antique "Speeders" along with other rarely seen and no longer used mechanical muscles of the nation's railroads in action. 916-686-5950. OCTOBER - Chalk the Walk & Peddlers Faire. Second Saturday in October. Professional and amateur artists welcome. Pumpkin patch for the kids, flea market-style vendors, food Main Street. DECEMBER - Ione Christmas Parade & Open House Second Saturday in December. Annual event, parade on Main Street at 3 pm, arts and crafts.
