Located on Hwy 49, Amador City is one of California's smallest incorporated cities. The community was named for miner Jose Maria Amador, who mined the creek in town in 1848-49. Amador City is a shopper's Mecca, abounding in antique stores, boutiques, and a variety of dining options. More than 20 Amador County wineries are a short drive away. Come visit the Little Amador Railroad, an early 20th century "G" scale narrow-gauge railroad, located on Pig Turd Alley. IONE  City of Ione, incorporated March 23, 1953
Unlike other communities in Amador County, which were founded on gold mining, Ione was a supply center, stage and rail stop and agricultural hub. The city is the home of the century-old Preston Castle, located at Preston School of Industry, a facility operated by the California Youth Authority. Ione provides a convenient central point for exploring the local countryside. The city is surrounded by gently rolling hills, cattle ranches and farms, and fish-filled lakes. Nearby Howard Park is a multi=use recreational complex featuring equestrian and outdoor events. The park is also the hub for local little league and soccer teams. JACKSON   City of Jackson, incorporated December 5, 1905
The largest city in the county, Jackson was founded as a gold rush camp in 1848. It was destroyed by fire in 1862 and was rebuilt. many of the existing historic Main Street structures date from that reconstruction era. Jackson became the county seat when Amador County was established in 1854.

Visitors will find a wide variety of interesting sites, accommodations and dining opportunities within the City of Jackson, including the Kennedy Mine and the newly constructed Kennedy Mine Amphitheatre, the Kennedy Mine Tailing Wheels Park, and the historic Amador County Museum. PLYMOUTH   City of Plymouth, incorporated February 8, 1917
Located on the northern edge of the county on Highway 49 near the El Dorado County line, Plymouth is the site of the Amador County Fairgrounds and the annual county fair each July. The town was born in 1871. The Empire Store building is one structure remaining from mining days, along with the Methodist Church, the first in the region when it was founded in 1853.

Plymouth is the gateway to the popular Shenandoah Valley, home to more than 25 renowned wineries. Most are small family operations, located along the scenic backroads of Plymouth off Highway 49 and Fiddletown Road, Amador is known for producing California's finest zinfandels, some of them crafted from 19th-century vines. SUTTER CREEK   City of Sutter Creek, incorporated February 11, 1913
The community is named for famed gold discoverer Capt. John Sutter, whose men found a small forest near there in 1844 overlooking a valley cut by a creek. Sutter established shipsawing pits and an outdoor factory named Pine Woods (now Tucker Hill). Sutter Creek started as a camp just south of this site. The community became a supply center for quartz mines in the 1850s.

The historic Main Street, with its original mining-era buildings, has in modern times become a Mecca for tourists who come to enjoy shopping for antiques and staying in the server bed and breakfast inns there.
